About the University of North Alabama
The University of North Alabama was established in 1830 and is Alabama’s oldest public 4-year university. The University of North Alabama was originally founded as LaGrange College in 1830 then was reestablished in 1872 as the first state-supported teachers college south of the Ohio River. One year later, it became one of the nation’s first coeducational colleges.
UNA has more than 8,800 students enrolled with student population being approximately 63% women and 37% men with a diverse population including international students from 64 countries. There are more than 70,000 alumni throughout the world.
The University of North Alabama offers its students more than 140 majors and concentrations of which, 76% of classes are taught by full-time faculty. You will also experience an average class size is 24 students with a 17:1 student-to-faculty ratio. UNA tuition is also among the lowest in the state with roughly 1/3 of UNA students receiving an institutional or endowed scholarship from the University. More than 98% of Cole Honors College graduates are employed in their degree fields or pursuing graduate degree work

UNA offers a wide variety of study abroad programs including those in Costa Rica, Africa, France, Australia, and China.
UNA managed 14 well-known collegiate athletic programs in NCAA Division I’s ASUN Conference which includes men’s basketball. Collectively, the UNA teams have attained more than 40 conference championships, dozens of No. 1 national rankings plus seven national titles!

University of North Alabama Location
The University of North Alabama is situated in Florence. Florence is a city in, and the county of Lauderdale County, Alabama USA. It is located along the Tennessee River and is home to the University of North Alabama, the oldest college in the state.
UNA is located within a four-city area on the banks of the Tennessee River known as the Shoals: Florence, Tuscumbia, Muscle Shoals, and Sheffield. Florence is the largest and principal city of the Florence-Muscle Shoals Metropolitan Statistical Area commonly known as “The Shoals” (which also includes the cities of Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, and Tuscumbia in Colbert County).
They have a beautiful 130-acre campus in historic Florence, Alabama which is within walking distance of downtown restaurants, shops, and businesses. The Shoals is steeped in arts, culture, and entertainment, and is home to the famous Muscle Shoals sound.
The climate is characterized by hot, humid summers and with generally mild to cool winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Florence has a humid subtropical climate. The average temperature of Florence is 59 °F (15 °C) and the average yearly precipitation in Florence is 57.06 in (144.9 cm).
