NOTE: NJCAA Division 1 can offer players athletic scholarships.
Playing for a NJCAA Division 1 is very competitive and is taken very seriously by everyone who is involved with the program which includes the coaching staff, support staff players and their fans. A high percentage of players who attend a NJCAA Division 1 (around 15%) successfully transfer to a NCAA Division 1 four year school. This figure has been pretty consistent over the past few years. This is because NCAA D1 college coaches and scouts consistently recruit players from NJCAA D1 & D2 basketball programs.
NOTE: 4-year College Coaches frequently turn to recruiting NJCAA Division 1 players over freshly graduated high school players to meet their recruitment needs.
NJCAA D1 men’s basketball programs play in various conferences and can be part of other athletic associations as well as the NJCAA (although the NJCAA is the largest of all the associations). These other associations include the:
- Association of Christian College Athletics (ACCA)
- California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA)
- National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA)
- Northwest Athletic Conference (NAC)
- United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA)
The above associations are linked to various conferences that the JUCO teams play in. These are based on where the Junior College is located. NJCAA D1 basketball programs are split into “Regions”. There are 24 regions in total. Each NJCAA basketball program is again given a specific region based on where their program is located. Below you can find every school which plays in the NJCAA Division 1. Each school is alphabetically listed by the Region they play in.
The reason for the NJCAA Division 1 regions is as follows:
Member colleges of the NJCAA are allotted to a specific NJCAA Region upon membership to the association. Unlike other collegiate organizations that defer to conference affiliation, the NJCAA guarantees each member college’s membership within the regional structure of the association. In most cases, region assignment is based upon geographic location of the college … The region structure of the NJCAA is the primary method used by all sponsored sports of the association in determining qualification for national championship tournaments.
