About Samford University

Samford University is a leading, nationally ranked, Christian university. Samford University was founded in 1841 and is the 87th-oldest institution of higher learning in the USA. It is located in the Birmingham, Alabama suburb of Homewood, with a campus that covers approximately 247 acres. It is also renowned for its beauty and Georgian-Colonial style architecture.

The university currently enrolls 5,683 students from 47 states and 19 countries. Samford University has 17 intercollegiate sports which include basketball (eight men’s and nine women’s) that participate at the NCAA Division 1 level. The Samford Bulldogs have won 57 conference championships since joining the Southern Conference in 2008. Samford’s athletic teams are among the top schools in the nation in the NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR). The university received an overall score of 98%, ranking 6th place among all Division 1 universities in the nation!

Samford’s mission to nurture student development intellectually, ethically, and spiritually is fostered through an array of opportunities which include: 129 student organizations, global engagement in more than 19 different countries, and nearly 300 courses that incorporate community service. Additionally, undergraduate students complete Samford’s core curriculum, providing a well-rounded foundation in the liberal arts. Samford offers undergraduate programs through 10 academic schools in: arts, arts and sciences, business, divinity, education, health professions, law, nursing, pharmacy, and public health. Samford University Location

Samford University is built in the Georgian Colonial style, now located approximately 5 miles (8 km) south of downtown Birmingham in Homewood, Alabama’s Shades Valley along Lakeshore Drive in Homewood, just 2 miles (3 km) from Interstate 65.

Homewood is a city in southeastern Jefferson County of Alabama. It is a suburb of Birmingham, located on the other side of Red Mountain. As of 2019, the estimated population was 25,377. Homewood is also home to more fast food restaurants per capita than any other town in the United States.

Homewood is all and with the U.S. Census Bureau stating the city has a total area of 8.3 square miles (21 km2). Shades Creek, which is part of the Cahaba River system, runs through Homewood. It has a feel of a small town southern life meets vibrant. It has contemporary retail, dining and entertainment options. It is an easy-to-find, easier-to-get-around neighborhood.

In Homewood, the summers are long, hot, and muggy. The winters are short, cold, and wet and, it is partly cloudy year round. Here are the tuition fees and costs to attend Samford University. Listed below are the tuition & fees, mandatory fees, and room and board costs for in state and out of state prospective students.

Cost figures assume that the student is dependent and are based on a full-time, undergraduate student taking 12–18 credit hours per semester during the day, living on campus in Pittman, Smith or Vail Hall, and holding a carte blanche meal plan. Students taking less than 12 hours will pay per credit hour. Students taking more than 18 credit hours will pay the tuition for full-time students as well as an additional per credit hour rate for each credit hour above 18 hours.

Students who have earned at least 64 credit hours or are in third year of residency have their choice of any of the meal plans. All on-campus residents are required to purchase a meal plan. Commuters may choose to purchase any meal plan. Except for entering freshmen, students may change their meal plan selection through the end of the first week of a semester, if
eligible.
