Auburn University Location
Auburn is a small, friendly university town in the hills of east central Alabama. It has a population of around 76,143 (2020 consensus). Alabama’s Gulf Shores can be reached in less than four hours. Forbes has consistently ranked Auburn on its lists for Best Places to Retire and Best Small Places for Business and Careers. U.S. News ranked Auburn among its top ten list of best places to live in the United States for the year 2009. Auburn City Schools has consistently been ranked among the top public school systems in the state and nation.
There are concerts, clubs and professional sporting events are a short drive away in Birmingham and Atlanta. Locally, Chewacla State Park has 696 acres offering a variety of recreational activities. In the Auburn area, there are six 18-hole golf courses open to the general public, including the world-class Grand National course on the famous Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
Auburn has an extremely diverse geology. Typical of the Deep South, Auburn has a humid subtropical climate with mild winters, early springs, long, hot, muggy summers, and warm autumns. Due to its position near the Gulf of Mexico, Auburn receives a significant amount of rainfall (on average, 52.6 inches) per year. There is also a distinct dry season in the late summer and early fall.
